Classical music is more than just pleasant background noise; it may actually make you healthier. While the sounds of such life-saving equipment are tough to mute, a new study suggests that some sounds, such as lullabies, may soothe pre-term babies and their parents, and even improve the infants' sleeping and eating patterns, while decreasing parents' stress (Pediatrics, 2013).

Most relaxing music can help you experience an alpha brainwave state, in which you feel calm, but are able to think clearly and are alert. Music listening has been suggested to beneficially impact health via stress-reducing effects. While there are a number of ways to help combat travel-related stress, music therapy has been scientifically proven to be one of the most effective means of managing anxiety.

In the last decade, music interventions were increasingly developed and used to reduce stress in a variety of settings (Chanda & Levitin, 2013 ; Heiderscheit, Chlan, & Donley, 2011 ; Koelsch, 2015 ; Uhlig et al., 2013 ), and to support physical and psychological health by creating an environment that stimulates relaxation and stress reduction (Bradt & Dileo, 2014 ; Kamioka et al., 2014 ; Koelsch & Stegemann, 2012 ; Nilsson, 2008 ). Therefore, it is timely to replicate the meta-analysis by Pelletier ( 2004 ) by using new multilevel meta-analytic techniques that enable moderator analyses of both within and between study differences in outcomes, thus preventing loss of information and increasing statistical power (Assink & Wibbelink, 2016 ).

Some other music can take you into deeper brainwave states, in which you gain the ability to think creatively and feel pleasurably tranquil. We hypothesized that listening to RM prior to the stress test, compared to SW or R would result in a decreased stress response across all measured parameters.

Classical music may be useful to help cure insomnia in college students, which is cheaper and healthier than taking sleeping pills. This spa music is so relaxing, both my husband and I listen to this before when we get into bed and we find this very calming and relaxing after having a hard and stressful day.
